Whitney Elizabeth Houston was conceived in a musical family on 9 August 1993, in Newark New Jersey. Whitney is the cousin of daughter to the singing sensation Dionne. As a young girl, Houston started singing professionally in the choir of her church. Houston sang the backing vocals for Chaka Khosn's single from 1978 Im Every Woman with her mother. She went on to provide the backing vocals of Jermaine Jackson, Lou Rawls and her mother, and also worked briefly as models on the cover of Seventeen magazine in 1981. The singer began her career as a lead vocalist with the New York-based funk band Material as well. The film itself as well as her performance in it were not highly appreciated, the album's soundtrack and her cover to the Dolly Parton song I Will Always Love You was the top of charts for albums and singles for a period of time and sold over 44 million copies around the world. Their daughter Bobbi is born the month of March of 1993, the year following her wedding to Bobby Brown. Her daily consumption of the drug was well-documented.
