Whitney Houston and Dana Bash
Whitney Elizabeth Houston was conceived in a musical family on 9 August 1993, in Newark New Jersey. Whitney is the cousin of daughter to the singing sensation Dionne. As a young girl, Houston started singing professionally in the choir of her church. Houston sang the backing vocals for Chaka Khosn's single from 1978 Im Every Woman with her mother. She went on to provide the backing vocals of Jermaine Jackson, Lou Rawls and her mother, and also worked briefly as models on the cover of Seventeen magazine in 1981. The singer began her career as a lead vocalist with the New York-based funk band Material as well. It was her quality of her vocal work in the band that caught the attention of several major record labels including Arista who signed her in 1983. This is where she was for the rest the duration of her career. Whitney Houston's debut Whitney Houston album was released in 1985. It was one of the most successful albums of an artist. The album came out with several hits including Saving All My Love for You How Are You Going to Know If You're a Good Person and The Greatest Love of All. This led to her achieving seven US Top Ones in a row. The singer beat the Beatles. The album was sold to three million people in during its initial year, and over 25 million worldwide. The album won her first six Grammys. The Whitney 1987 record, which included Where Do Broken Hearts and I Wanna Dance With Somebody as hits, helped build upon the successes she'd had. However, the 1992 movie The Bodyguard sealed her spot in the top 20 most-sellers in history. The film itself as well as her performance in it were not highly appreciated, the album's soundtrack and her cover to the Dolly Parton song I Will Always Love You was the top of charts for albums and singles for a period of time and sold over 44 million copies around the world. Their daughter Bobbi is born the month of March of 1993, the year following her wedding to Bobby Brown. Her daily consumption of the drug was well-documented.
