Dana Elaine Owens, better called Queen Latifah in the United States is a performer and actress. In music, film and television, Queen Latifah has won the award of two Screen Actors Guild Awards (two Image Awards), a Grammy Award as well as six more Grammy nods and nominations for the Emmy Award. Queen Latifah was raised in Newark, New Jersey. She is the daughter of Rita Owens Sr. and Lancelot Owens Jr. Latifahs parents split up at the age of Latifah, then ten years old. Latifah was born and brought up within Newark New Jersey attended Catholic school in Newark. Latifah is a word that means gentle and generous. The name was given by her cousin to her when she was eight years old. Latifah has always been tall and tall. Standing 5'10" She was a center forward on her high school basketball team.
